If you were thinking that Pompey's recent passing game was something that Adams is totally responsible for then you might want to watch this.

  • Blackburn Preview

Fratton Park, 3pm Sunday, 30 November.

In a match that will see two of England's up and coming managers go head to head, Blackburn Rovers will be hoping that Pompey will be burnt out rather than buoyed up by their exploits against footballing giants A.C. Milan on Thursday.

Paul Ince's Blackburn side, currently lying 19th, are desperate for a victory. Having gone eight matches on the trot without a win and will want to climb out of the relegation zone.

Defender, Stephen Warnock will return from suspension and along with England's former no1, Paul Robinson, will want to keep a clean sheet. Blackburn's strikers will be hoping to exploit Pompey's Achilles Hee and grab a last minute goal to take the match. Home grown Matt Derbyshire complemented by Paraguian striker par excellence, Roque Santa Cruz, will be the ones to watch. Keep an eye too on the multi-alented Norwegian Gamst Pedersen, once a target for HR.

For Adams the dilemma will be how much to change a team that put up one of Pompey's best ever performances mid-week.  Some changes will be forced with King Kanu now out with a groin injury.  With Kanu out, Crouch and Defoe will start up front with the rest of the team largely as it was mid-week, although mid-field may be reshuffled to accommodate Kranjcar who has been back in training this week.

Adams will have worked hard on team resilience following a series of late disappointments, although given his self-effacing approach he will be reviewing his own tactics particularly with reference to substitutions.

Despite Blackburn currently a shadow of their former selves, Adams will still be very much aware that Rovers beat Pompey twice at Fratton Park last season, 2 -1 in the Carling Cup and 1 - 0 in the Premier League.

For Ince these are difficult times. Blackburn are an established Premier League team and if they find themselves in the bottom three come January, changes might be in the offing.

Portsmouth from: James; Johnson, Kaboul, Distin, Belhadj, Little, Diop, Davis, Kranjcar, Crouch, Defoe, A Traore,  Pamarot, Hughes, Mvuemba, Nugent, Thomas, Hreidarsson, Ashdown.

Blackburn from: Robinson, Brown, Simpson, Ooijer, Samba, Nelsen, Emerton, Khizanishvili, Warnock, Mokoena, Andrews, Tugay, Treacy, Pedersen, Roberts, Derbyshire, Villanueva, Santa Cruz, Fowler, McCarthy.

  • Pompey Magnifico

What a night ! To see Pompey take Milan right to the wire before being denied a famous victory was all the more remarkable when you consider Tony Adams first game as a Manager in European Competition saw him unable to even name a full complement of substitutes.

It was clear from the off that this weakened Pompey team were buoyed by the unique Fratton atmosphere.

As the game progressed it was clear that Milan were struggling to cope with the spirit on the pitch and frenzy transmitted from the crowd

Life was made even more difficult for 'The Rossoneri' when the game moved into fairyland territory.

  • Ronaldinho & Distin's Kiss 'n Cuddle

David James looked very uptight in the tunnel prior to the Milan game last night. Not his normal over confident self. A sign of a player no longer at the top of his game? Or perhaps just a keeper worried about a leaky defense on a rainy night.

No such nervous displays by Ronaldinho and Distin. Both looking imperious in the tunnel and then embracing seconds before walking onto the pitch.

It's been 6 years since they last played together at PSG, yet the bond was still there for all to see. Ronaldinho showing a lot of affection for Distin, singling him out for a hug, bringing a beaming smile to the face of our French defender and no doubt earning him even more respect from the Pompey youngsters lining up behind him.

Ronaldinho made more friends at the end of the match, walking round the pitch and clapping the Pompey fans. They in awe of his amazing skills and he no doubt wondering how so few could make the noise of so many.

  • King Kanu

Kanu proved again last night that he is a fabulous player and for long periods was the slowest yet most effective player on the pitch. He gives you a confidence that everything is going to be ok.  Leaving opponents for dead with a shimmy of the hips or laying the ball off through a pack of players when everybody else bar Diarra would have panicked.

He needs to be brought out of semi retirement. The facts speak for themselves. Our most  important player in the Cup run last year, and probably our most effective this.

Despite his age and lack of pace Kanu can still hack it and needs to be in contention to start every match from here on in - I don't care about the Defoe - Crouch partnership. Not once this season have they gelled in the same way that Kanu and Crouch's did last night.  Two intelligent players working together to master the ball rather than vice versa. And that's without considering the mentoring effect Kanu must have on Crouch when they play alongside each other.

Kanu you were excellent. I remember HR's comments about how good you must have been when you were at Ajax. Maybe you were, but that only serves to ignore an extraordinary talent that is still capable of making one of the top 3 teams in the world look ordinary.

  • Spurs Ticket Allocation Update

    Pompey Independent Supporters Association

Pompey have decided to take an allocation of only 1700 tickets for the game at White Hart Lane on Sunday January 18th.

Having set such an early postal allocation deadline of Wednesday 26th November in order to decide  what allocation to take has meant that we will have a smaller than expected travelling support for what is bound to be a high profile game.

Once again it has to be stated that PISA  feel a deadline 53 days in advance of the game is unreasonable, especially bearing in mind the time of year and the amount of expenditure needed to pay for games in advance up to and around the Christmas/New Year period.

  • Injury Update

Good news on the injury front with neither Defoe or Diarra requiring surgery.

Defoe looked set to be out 'til the New Year following a calf injury that he picked up prior to limping off during the recent England match against Germany. News that he won't need surgery comes as a relief considering our forward line is reduced to Crouch, Kanu and Nugent, none of them known for their speed. Defoe looks unlikely to play against A.C. Milan although it is hopeful he will return against Blackburn this Sunday.

Diarra despite not needing an operation on his injured ankle will still be out for a few weeks and will be badly missed in a midfield that has looked decidedly off colour since Muntari left in the summer.

Campbell should return soon although Utaka will miss the Milan game after picking up a hip injury. But good news for Davis who is expected to be available to play against Milan following a bout of flu.

  • PISA: Pompey Masterplan Comment

    Pompey Independent Supporters Association

Portsmouth Football Club have at last revealed their Horsea Island/Fratton Park Masterplan. Details can be found on the club's website at www.portsmouthfc.co.uk.

Executive Chairman Peter Storrie outlined the plans during tonight's Quay Football Hour (Tuesday 25th November). Ironically though this is a massive issue for both PFC and the city itself most of the fan's input to Peter Storrie on the Football Hour was directed at issues surrounding the atmosphere at Fratton Park.

There are a number of supporters who are worried that ... read more here.

  • PISA: Spurs Ticket Controversy

    Pompey Independent Supporters Association

    Spurs Ticket Allocation Controversy

PFC is stating that fans have until Wednesday to apply for the Spurs away game on Sunday January 18th. These tickets have to be applied for by post and the club is indicating that they are likely to go for the smaller of the two allocations offered, 1700 as opposed to 2900.

Many fans are unhappy at such ultimatums so far in advance of games, especially in light of the credit crunch, forthcoming expenses at Christmas and thousands having to break the bank in order to travel to Wolfsburg.

A number of supporters also dislike the postal application system, much preferring to deal directly with the ticket office, a straight exchange of cash for ticket in one transaction is the preferred option for many with clear updates on availability via all mediums (including the local newspaper even if at any particular time The News may not be flavour of the month).

It is clear that many fans want to go to this game but..

  • Fans v United M'Lud

It seems all is not well in the red part of Manchester.

On December 10th the Office of Fair Trading will examine complaints made by United fans about seat prices. Fans are claiming  that some prices are up by 60 per cent. It seems that United are indeed part of the real world after all. Following poor box sales to the corporate prawns they are now trying to mug the poor man in the street instead. As Citigroup have proved this week, the bigger you are the more pain you feel when you fall. We watch with interest as the league's 500LB Gorillas comes to terms with the weakening economy.

No such problems at Eastlands it seems. City are apparenty offering John Terry £200,000 a week to misjudge back passes to Joe Hart and Kasper Schmeichel.

  • Defoe Injury Worries

Jermain Defoe will visit a calf specialist tomorrow to see whether he needs surgery to rectify a problem that has been bothering him for the past 3 games. After limping off against Germany and sitting out yesterdays match against Hull, Defoe may be out for a further month.

This comes at a bad time for Pompey who have already been hit by the absence of Campbell, Diarra and Kranjcar.

Pompey looked short of pace up front yesterday despite the inclusion of Utaka who looked a little out of sorts alongside Crouch. Without Defoe, Pompey look ineffective up front, but we shouldn't forget that prior to Defoe we got along just fine with Benjani and Kanu. Although midfield support was far stronger at the time.

  • Coles - No Official Approach

David Coles talking on PfcTV, has spoken of his decision to stay at Pompey despite 'unofficial'  interest from Spurs. With England's number one keeper under his belt Coles said he ‘saw sense' and committed his future to Pompey until 2011.

Make of this what you will, but you'd be forgiven for concluding that the mobile network has been busy between North London and the South Coast this week. Isn't it about time that non-playing staff were covered by the regulations that effect players?

Coles decision to stay is yet more good news from Pompey. Adams has proved in a very short time that he has the qualities necessary to keep the fabric of the team and coaching staff  in place despite continual predatory interest from elsewhere.

There is still no sign of an assistant manager with Dennis Bergkamp confirming that despite an approach from Pompey, he didn't feel ready for such a demanding challenge at this stage of his career.
