My Bio

Raised in Paulsgrove, went to Hillside School, played in an undefeated team with, I remember, Keith Dyke in goal and Barry Jack in the forward line.  They went on I believe to play for Waterlooville. I disappeared into oblivion.  We won the supporters cup in the mid fifties at the hallowed ground - picture to prove it.  My first taste of Fratton Park was the 53/54 season.  Dad put me down the front, he went up the back.  My heroes are Jimmy Dickinson, Johnny Gordon, Duggie Reid, and if Stanley Matthews had not been in his prime then the fastest winger I ever saw, the great Peter Harris, would have played for England many, many times. The Royal Marine band parading at every home game at half time marching and the drum major throwing the mace up as high as he could and 40,000 willing him to drop it , which he did sometimes to please the crowd. At 13 we moved to Exmouth in Devon, never once forgetting my team. I got married, joined the Metropolitan Police and retired in 1998. I have twin boys and a lovely daughter and a wife, none of them can understand why I am placid in everything until it involves Pompey, maybe its old age. My main aim in life is to get the RED SOCKS back as part of the kit, how sad is that!!!!!!. I only want red socks for Xmas, I shall not wear any other colour.

  • STANDING ROOM ONLY.

In London, I can, in rush hour, cram myself in a tube train until its impossible to move, stand on a platform with hundreds of people only feet away from the rail and in future Ryan Air intend to have standing on flights!!!!.  So, why can't I stand and watch POMPEY with my feet firmly on the ground,  the only danger being a leather ball wizzing past my left ear?  Almost every ground seems to have fans standing up  front of there seats, which is much more dangerous than providing the real thing.

I can't think of single reason why certain parts of Fratton Park or any other premier ground should not have standing room, certainly for the home supporters. Clearly safety is important but with more modern exits and entrances, better camera and stewarding it's about time we got back to the proper way to watch a match.  Those of you who have not experienced 40,000 packed into Fratton Park and all but the grandstand on there feet it's the most fantastic feeling.  During the time when crowd trouble was prominent inside grounds, cameras were few and far between, intelligence was ad hoc, segregation was non-existant, and to cap it all, high fencing  would have animal rights and civil liberty groups enjoying a field day.  Times have changed but  health and safety jobsworths should not be allowed to control everything we do. With the re- structure of Fratton Park or a new stadium this is an ideal opportunity to STAND  AND  DELIVER.
